CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
In the Orange Room, there will be both positive consequences for appropriate behavior, and negative consequences for inappropriate behavior. In our classroom, we will focus on the positive actions of each student by recognizing when they are being a positive role model for others to see. Students will be given an opportunity to receive both individual and group rewards for behavior. Individual rewards may include praise, which increases a student’s concept of personal virtue; ‘Dragon Dollars’ for good behavior, which can be used to purchase items at our school store; positive notes home; positive visits to the principal’s office; extra recess; extra computer time; or a special treat. Group rewards for students who have met the quarter’s behavior criteria will also take place in special activities throughout the year as part of our PBIS ‘Positive Behavior Incentive Support’ program. As a component of our PBIS program, students in the Orange Room will have to follow the same discipline plan as the rest of Summit Academy for inappropriate behaviors, as our goal is to make the classroom a safe and fun learning environment for all our students.
Positive Behavior Consequences:
Daily Recognition- Students who begin and end their day on green, will
be acknowledged in some way for fostering daily learning
in the classroom.
1st reward- The student will move their green behavior card to blue,
after making positive behavior choices everyday in the previous
week or after modeling exceptional behavior in the classroom.
2nd reward- The student will move their blue behavior card to purple, if
they have gone above and beyond in some way to model
exceptional behavior or if their card has been on green, blue, or
purple consistently throughout the previous month.
Negative Behavior Consequences:
1st warning- The student will need to move their green behavior card to yellow.
2nd warning- The student will need to move their behavior card to orange.
As a result, they will miss choice or recess to fill out a ‘rest and
think’ form regarding the choices they have been making in
class. (A behavior label will be placed in their planner for
parent viewing.)
3rd warning- The student will need to move their behavior card to red. As
a result, the student will need to call home to discuss
their inappropriate choices with a parent/guardian.
4th warning- The student will need to move their behavior card to grey. As
a result, the student will need to go to the office to discuss
their inappropriate choices with the Principal. When a student
reaches this level, they will remain in the office for the remainder
of the day to work.
5th warning- If the student continues to have difficulty making good choices in
the office, a meeting will be planned involving the student,
parent, teacher, and administrator.
