Multicultural Art - November


 

 

For the month of November, students will be learning about 2 styles of artwork from Japan - gyotaku (fish prints) and anime.  Then students will create a Japanese underwater scene. Students will work in a group to draw at least 10 things in their underwater scene. All characters must have anime characteristics (large eyes with 2 highlights, sharp simple noses, simple mouths, large spiky or voluminous hair, and thin bodies). Characters in the underwater scene could be fish, starfish, seahorses, scuba divers, mermaids, or even an octopus. Students must also include one fish print in their scene. To create a fish print, students will use rubber fish. Paint will be rolled onto the fish, and the fish will be stamped onto paper. The result is a realistic looking fish print.
