Multicultural Art - October
For the month of October, students will be learning about the decorated elephants from India. Elephants are decorated for festivals and parades. The elephant is washed and cleaned, then painted elaborately with designs and patterns. Even the elephant's toe nails are painted. The elephants have scarves placed on their forehead, blankets on their backs, and anklets covered with tiny silver bells.
For their art project, students will be creating their own decorated Indian elephant. Students will receive an elephant template to fill in. Students will draw the features of the elephant as well as decorations. This will be colored completely with crayons. Then students will use extra materials to further decorate their elephant. Students can use wallpaper, fabric, sequins, glitter, and mosaic tiles to help decorate their elephant to represent the elephants of India. The elephant will be cut out and put onto 2 different colored papers to create a border. The border will also be decorated.
