Summit Academy Flat Rock
Mrs. Melanie Castellese

2nd - 3rd Grade : October

For the month of October, students will learn about the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos, which is very similar to Halloween. This holiday uses similar symbols, such as skulls and skeletons, but is much more festive and joyful. Bright colors are used in the Mexican artwork celebrating the holiday, and skulls and skeleton figures are happy and not scary.

For their project, students will trace a skull template. Students will then draw curvy lines and shapes around the edges of their lines, as well as inside their skull. Students will use oil pastels, which are bright and colorful to decorate their skull.

After the skull drawing is complete, students will create another project for Dia de los Muertos. Students will create their own skeleton paper doll. Students will choose 2 out of the four outfits to color in completely with markers. Once the skeleton and outfits are cut out, students can place the outfit on their skeleton.
