For the month of October, students will learn about Dia de los Muertos, a Mexican holiday similar to Halloween. Both holidays use images of skulls and skeletons, but those used for Dia de los Muertos are brightly colored, full of patterns, and joyful representations.

 

For their project, students will create their own skull mask using paper plates. Students will be given a template to trace on their plate. They will cut this out. Students will draw the eyes and nose on their skull. They will then decorate with many colors and patterns to represent Dia de los Muertos. The eyes will be cut out, and students will glue on a popsicle stick so that masks can be held up to the students' faces.
