Weekly Work: 8th Grade Contracts
8th Grade Math Contracts
Students are given contracts on Monday (Tuesday, if Monday is a holiday). The activities are explained during Direct Instruction. Students have more than an hour each day to get the assignments finished. Should an assignment not be finished in class, students are expected to take the work home to be finished that night. The next day, we check finished work and continue to grow as we learn new skills. Use the link to view the contracts. If your student loses the contract, feel free to print it from this .pdf file.

9-4 | During the first week of school, we will review these topics: fractions, ratio, and proportion. |

9-10 | MEAP prep--Review these topics: integers, expressions, and one-step equations. |

9-17 | MEAP Toolkits--Review these topics: solving one-step equations with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. We will look at the distributive property. |

We began a new unit on polynomials. Students are introduced to vocabulary and adding and subtracting polynomials. Friday is Records Day and is a half day. |

(No school for students Mon., Nov.5th and Tues., Nov. 6th) We continue to add and subtract polynomials. This week we make a game of it! |

11-12 | Rational Numbers, Expressions, and Equations will be studied along with multiplication and division of monomials. |

11-19 | Because of Thanksgiving, we will have a 2-day contract. Multiplication and Division of polynomials are the topic for this week. We will multiply binomials. The District Assessment is next week, November 29th. See Moodle for practice activities. |

11-26 | Review Polynomial concepts. The district assessment will be given Thursday, November 29th. |

New Unit: Linear Functions: Students review graphing on the coordinate plane. They begin graphing linear equations. |

12-17 | Students use graphs, points, and equations to locate the x-intercept and y-intercepts. |

1-7 | Students determine whether linear equations are parallel or perpendicular. They review slope concepts in preparation for the district assessment on Jan. 15th. |

1-14 | Students review concepts of linear equations as well as write linear equations from given points and slopes in preparation for the District Assessment to be given Jan. 15th. |

1-21 | Students began the new unit on Systems of Equations by graphing systems to find the solution. |

4-15 | Students begin the new Polynomial unit with multiplying monomials. Continue multiplying monomials with powers, negatives, and zero. |

4-22 | Students are identifying monomials, binomials, and trinomials and learning to add/subtract polynomials. |

Students continue work with polynomials by multiplying binomials using both the Distributive Property and FOIL. EdPerformance will be taken on Wednesday of this week--students should get plenty of rest and eat breakfast! |

5-6 |
They will have their District Assessment #6 on Polynomials this week. They begin the week with a study of special products with polynomials. The rest of the week is for review of topics. Be sure to go to Moodle for PowerPoints and other work to practice concepts. |

5-13 | Students review for the District Assessment this week. After the DA, they begin working on the Functions Unit. |

5-20 | Students work on understanding domain and range and relations to functions. They graph quadratic functions, cubic functions, and inversely proportional functions. |

5-27 | Students work on graphing exponential functions and root functions. We begin the reviewfor next week's District Assessment. |

6-3 | Students review the graphs of all the functions we have worked on this unit. They should use their contracts and the matching game given to them last week to prepare for the DA. |
