National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are the nation's premier organizations established to recognize outstanding middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NHS and NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character, and Citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921 and 1929.
A student council takes on the responsibility of representing the whole student body. The student council voices the needs, wants and concerns of the student body to the administration (i.e. principals and teachers). They are also responsible for encouraging school spirit through initiating school spirit events such as a spirit week and dances.
The Summit Karate Club provides students with a cache of self-defense techniques. This club focuses on the traditional aspects of Karate and not as a sport. Each class is focused on long-term physical and mental development. Structure and teamwork are enforced. Classes concentrate on building proficiencies in Kihon (Basics), Kata (Forms), and Kumite (Controlled Sparring). The club is offered at both the Summit Academy and Summit Academy North schools. You must be at least 5th Grade or higher to be part of the club.
