Proficiency Expectations

Proficiency Expectations at Summit Academy Schools

We know how important your child’s education and success is to you. The entire staff of Summit Academy Schools believes that all of our children can excel. It is important that your children function at their highest academic level at Summit Academy Schools. It is with this in mind that Summit Academy Schools sets high expectations for all of our students. While it is understood that students enter school at different levels of readiness, with different interests and with varying aspirations, these differences do not justify the development of different academic expectations for our children. To the contrary, the goal of each student developing to his or her fullest potential argues for our “grade level content expectations”. This common core of academic expectations sets no limits on anyone. There are grade level academic content expectations that are required for all students at Summit Academy Schools. These are known as “GLCE’s”. Parent Guides which explain what GLCE’s are required for your child, are available on our web-site at www.summit- academy.com. Common assessment tools are utilized at Summit Academy Schools to assess a student's proficiency in These Grade Level Content Expectations. We will require all students to attain grade level proficiency in both reading and math in order to be promoted to their next grade level. Students, who do not achieve proficiency in only one subject area (within 20%) of proficiency, will be given a one year probationary period. This probation will require participation in both after school and summer school remediation programming. We are pleased to provide these programs at no cost to our parents. If after the probationary period, a child does not achieve proficiency level, the student will be retained. With these high expectations and rigorous standards for your children, Summit Academy students will be best prepared to compete in a global economy and more options will be open to them as a result.
