Summit Academy Athletic Philosophy
The high school sports program will provide students with an equal opportunity to be selected as a member of a sports team based on personal skill level, motivation and desire. Emphasis will be placed on the improvement of each student’s character development and acquisition of the knowledge and physical sports skills. Student’s playing time will be based on personal skills, commitment to the program, dedication to their specific team and knowledge of their sport. All students will have opportunities to apply skills in competitive situations, commensurable with their skills, without sacrificing the competitive nature of a sports program. Athletics are a part of the total educational program of Summit Academy. Being a member of the Summit Academy athletic program is an honor and a privilege. There are 6 ideas that support our athletic philosophy and mission statement.
1. Participation in extra curricular sports is a privilege, not a right.
2. Participation in extra curricular sports does not guarantee equal playing time for all students. Students will be placed in best possible situations to succeed, based on their personal skill level.
3. A sports win and loss record does not necessarily reflect the success of the program
4. School values will be evident throughout the program.
5. The school is identified by the publicity generated by the sports program.
6. All persons associated with the Summit Academy athletic program will not act in a manner that would be detrimental to the name of the school.
